Rila hotel
Business hotel "Rila" is centrally located near to the most government and national institutions and offices. All Sofia's most famous landmarks are within walking distance

Rila hotel
This property is aimed primarily at business travellers. It dates from Bulgaria's Soviet era and therefore occupies a fairly unattractive concrete block. But the stylish Art Nouveau archtiecture of Sofia's centre is close at hand. The rooms' décor is functional but they are well appointed and kept in good condition. All have cable television. Restaurant 'Vranya' serves both traditional Bulgarian and international cuisine. Three different multifunctional conference halls offer an opportunity for seminars and business meetings.

Beds Clean but the rest had been there for 50+ years!
Cracked and rotten windows. A non smoking room but smelt strongly of smoke.
Top Tip
Great outdoor bar/garden right in front of the hotel.

This is a nice hotel - not exactly flashy but perfectly comfortable, affordable, and the location is fantastic! It's easy to find your way to all the typical major sights and attractions in central Sofia from this base, and they are all a brief and pleasant walk away. There are scores of restaurants, bars and shops in the immediate vicinity.
The room was spacious, with a balcony and a view to the south with the impressive Vitosha mountain in the background. There was adequate furniture, a large fridge with mini-bar provisions, and satellite TV. The staff were polite and efficient. The bathroom was a little dated in its decor but functional enough, in fact I was pleased to find a nice big bathtub which I assume every room has. Overall the hotel is slightly old fashioned but provides a very convenient and pleasant base for a typical tourist or business trip to Sofia.

It's worth being aware that the main entrance to the hotel is on "Pozitano" street, but the postal address is "Tsar Kaloyan" street, round the corner. This helped my orientation somewhat when I used my map to find my way around!
