Sheraton Sofia Balkan hotel
This magnificently refurbished property is not only beautiful and imposing in itself but contains one of Sofia's most famous landmarks: the fourth-century St. George Rotunda, which is located in the interior court between the hotel and the Presidential Palace. The elegant lobby features crystal chandeliers and its many columns dominate the marble floored reception area. The hotel contains 188 exquisitely appointed soundproof rooms and suites. The Executive Rooms feature American cherry wood furniture, luxurious soft fabrics, comfortable ottoman chairs and authentic artwork. Guest services and facilities include a complete 24-hour business center with fast speed Internet connection and an Executive Lounge with butler service. The Preslav restaurant, Sofia's most famous fine dining establishment, offers impeccably prepared cuisine while the Balkan restaurant serves a variety of traditional specialties. For a more intimate setting, sip a drink on the open-air terrace of the lobby bar overlooking the bustling city center.

Comment
City centre location ideal for business use. Accommodation very reasonable however very expensive for meals and drinks.
Top Tip
Be careful as unlicensed “official looking” taxis are working the airport and will charge you an “arm and a leg” for very short journeys even though they state they are metered.

Comment
The only comment I would make is that the airport shuttle was free and we were happy to tip the driver although he made it obvious that he expected a tip and looked dis-satisfied at what was offered and we ended up having to give him English and euros as we were short of bulgarian money.
Top Tip
A really good traditional bulgarian restaurant is Pectopaht (www.kashtite.com) good value, excellent food and a 3 man band.
